Since the evening of Saturday, 18 October 2025, Lawyers for Justice has been monitoring a coordinated campaign of incitement and defamation targeting the organization and its director, Advocate Mohannad Karajah. The campaign is being carried out through suspicious Facebook pages and accounts—some fake, others duplicated—that deliberately publish fabricated and manipulated posts falsely attributed to the organization and to Advocate Karajah. These acts constitute a complete criminal offense under the Cybercrimes Law and pose a serious threat to the organization’s human-rights work.
From the first moment, the organization and Advocate Karajah publicly denied these false posts and confirmed that they had no connection to them. However, the campaign continued in a systematic and synchronized manner and was accompanied by malicious reports and complaints submitted to the Office of the Attorney General, aimed at pressuring authorities to issue arrest warrants or punitive measures. Similar complaints were submitted to the Palestinian Bar Association, clearly reflecting an intent to mislead public opinion, distort the truth, and retaliate against the organization’s work in defending human rights and public freedoms.
The organization has initiated communication with several local and international human-rights bodies concerned with the protection of human-rights defenders, informing them of the severity and scope of the incitement campaign. A formal report on the content of this campaign was also submitted to the Palestinian Bar Association and the Office of the Attorney General to pursue those responsible for the crimes of incitement, defamation, threats, and falsification.
The organization has also documented statements made by the “Spokesperson for the Security Services” in a media interview, in which he relied on the fabricated narrative being circulated—thus attempting to influence public opinion and fuel hate speech and incitement. This represents a serious overreach into the domain of the judiciary, the sole authority empowered to adjudicate such claims, and constitutes a violation of the Palestinian Basic Law.
Accordingly, the organization affirms the following:
- Lawyers for Justice is an initiative composed of a group of lawyers and human-rights defenders. It is not a registered NGO or rights organization with the Ministry of Interior; it carries out legal practice and human-rights activities.
- The Public Prosecution is the authority legally mandated to verify the authenticity of the circulated posts. It bears responsibility for resorting to technical expertise to identify the source and producers of the fabricated content—particularly given that the initial promotion of these posts was linked to two individuals from the media sector who deliberately disseminated the false material in violation of professional media ethics.
- The organization appreciates the professionalism of the “Tahqiq,” “Tayaqqan,” and “Kashef” fact-checking platforms, which announced on 20 October 2025 that the defamatory posts were fabricated and manipulated, and provided technical evidence confirming this. These platforms have previously exposed similar disinformation campaigns falsely attributed to Palestinian Authority officials.
- The insistence of certain parties and individuals on adopting the fabricated content and misleading public opinion despite the clarity of the facts confirms the existence of a targeted campaign aimed at obstructing the organization’s human-rights role and silencing voices defending human rights.
- The organization affirms its commitment to its legitimate human-rights work and its rejection of all forms of incitement, threats, and blackmail. It reserves the right to take legal action against any person involved in producing, disseminating, or promoting defamatory content or fabricated statements.
- The organization calls on the Attorney General to take urgent legal measures to protect human-rights defenders and to hold accountable those behind this campaign, especially given that what is taking place constitutes a serious violation of the law and threatens the principles of justice.
- The organization calls on local human-rights institutions to take a position against the hate speech and incitement inherent in this campaign targeting human-rights work and human-rights defenders—especially after the truth about the fabricated posts has become clear. In this context, the organization has contacted numerous international human-rights bodies urging them to take a stand against this systematic and directed incitement.
- The organization calls for adherence to the Palestinian Basic Law and international human-rights instruments, and for respect for the rule of law in a manner that preserves civil peace and social cohesion.
